When undergoing a lifestyle transformation, feeling like you’ve plateaued after a few weeks is pretty common. Here are a few ideas to help you break through that plateau and keep moving forward:
1. Reassess Your Goals
Sometimes, we plateau when our goals become too routine or no longer challenge us. Try setting new, more specific goals—whether it’s increasing your exercise intensity, trying a new form of activity, or focusing on a different aspect of health (e.g., sleep, stress management, mental health).
2. Mix Up Your Exercise Routine
If you’ve been doing the same type of workout for a while, your body may have adapted. Try adding variety! You could switch between strength training, cardio, yoga, or even try something new like swimming, cycling, or dancing. You could also change the intensity or try interval training for a different challenge. Check out our Workouts & Exercise section for a range of different workouts you can do to prevent boredom!
3. Focus on Recovery and Sleep
Recovery and sleep are key to progress. If you’re not getting enough rest, your body may struggle to repair and rebuild. Prioritise sleep (7-9 hours for most people), and consider adding practices like stretching, foam rolling, or meditation to your routine to help with recovery.
4. Stay Accountable
Sometimes, a plateau can happen when we lose motivation or don’t feel as accountable. Join a fitness class, work with a trainer, or find a workout buddy. Having someone to share your goals and progress with can reinvigorate your commitment.
5. Celebrate Small Wins
Sometimes, we get frustrated by lack of big progress. Take time to celebrate even the small victories—whether it’s maintaining a consistent routine, feeling stronger, or improving your mental clarity. This mindset shift can help you stay motivated long term.
What do you think might be contributing to your plateau? Do any specific areas of your routine that feel less exciting?
