The Birthday Workout

Monday sees me turn 42.

I’m currently in the South China Sea heading for South Korea.

I try to do a birthday workout each year. It’s easier to do when I am on board ship.

The rules are simple. Total number of reps is age multiplied by age.

So 42x42=1,764

I’ve chosen to split it between 14 exercises for 126 reps.

It’s a great test of mental and physical fortitude. I even rope in some the crew to do it with me. Or parts of it.

It’s starting a fresh year with intention. Starting the year off with something hard, the rest of the year is a breeze. The last time that I did it was my 40th. I felt amazing for days after. It kick started my gym habit on board.

I’m working on my tracking sheet for it and will post progress throughout.

I can’t wait for it.

Abeam of the Philippines and we are in 4m seas from ahead. Which is causing the sea to come over the bow.

Not conducive to gym weather, we’ve been having to pump out water from the cargo holds too.

Forecast is for seas to increase for the next 24 hours and then we should start to get into better weather.

So the birthday workout will need to wait, I reckon either after departure from Kwangyang or whilst alongside in Busan. Alongside would be better with the ship not moving.

I am thoroughly disappointed to have to wait.
