Digestion help for high protein intake

Hi everyone, hope everyone’s well and smashing their goals :flexed_biceps:

I was wondering in anyone had any advice on stomach issues with us having higher protein counts? I seem to struggle with my stomach which I can only imagine it’s due to a higher protein intake but I just keep getting these insane stomach pains and gas (sorry about that) anyone else suffer with this?

You could try to lean towards more whey protein/yoghurt/eggs/white fish over chicken/beef, as they’re typically easy to digest!

If it’s the whey you’re struggling with, maybe try an isolate or egg white protein in case it’s a lactose thing?

If you’re having a lot of protein bars, they will cause a lot of gas at first so either avoid them, or just mainline them until your gut bugs adapt (which they will! :joy:)

Thank you for your advice, really appreciate it. Definitely jumping to more of an egg and fish diet and see how I get on

I’ve also just had some egg white protein delivered which I’ve never tried before so I’m intrigued to see how I react to that :crossed_fingers:

Haha well I wish they’d adapt soon :joy: I have one day, which I don’t think is considered a lot? I don’t think :grimacing::joy: although I could easily live off them haha

More greens will help mate, the fibre will help with digestion better also try some herbal teas too. They are really good for improving digestion

Thank you mate, appreciate that. Will get more greens in the diet too :flexed_biceps: yeah my fibre could be a little low tbf

This is an easy way to bump the fibre up.

Get plenty of fibre and water for smoother digestion.

Do you have any foods to support gut bacteria like yoghurt? Kiwis are great for digestive health too due ti enzymes in them.

If you find your still having issues you could try plant based protien too as it could be all the dairy if your slightly intolerant to it x

Thank you Hannah, yeah I usually have my greek yoghurt but wasn’t aware about the kiwis, I love kiwis :joy:

I did think about plant based protein, I’ve tried it before and felt like it was no way near as nice haha but then gut health is more important :joy: x

I found extra fibre from Psyhillum husk powder and chia seeds very helpful.

Everyone reacts to different proteins in different ways. I cant handle greek yoghurt but could literally eat 1kg of chicken in a day with no issues.

Cheers mate, I did read about the Psyhillum husk so will check it out. I seem to have it under control a little now but it just seems like an ongoing learning process of what I can and can’t handle haha

Pineapple :pineapple: helps break it down, I hope this helps. I find to many shakes ect makes me bloat so I’ve been hitting my protein through whole foods :heart_hands:
